If you celebrate the Bard's birthday in January and live where you cannot get fresh local haggis, or just like haggis; this product is a god send. A few minutes in a microwave, it is ready to join the tatties, neeps and roasted beef. Sadly, it is not the same if you want to "pipe in the haggis" and perform the "address", as it does NOT come in a casing. Somehow, carrying a Corningware dish filled with steaming contents (no matter how good) as opposed to a "great sausage" on a silver service would not have the same meaning. On the other hand, I have been able to get folks to try haggis in this format, who would never try the sausage style haggis. Somehow it demystifies it! Go figure...

5Okay, so it isn't traditional lamb...Aug 10, 2009

This stuff tastes great. It isn't traditional lamb, but beef-based haggis is still a Scots dish. Try it with diced potatoes and fried eggs. MY PERSONAL FAVE: Nuke a third of a can on a plate till it's HOT... about 1 minute in most microwave ovens... Throw it in your favorite sandwich roll. (My fave is Raley's bakery parmesan sandwich roll... but any fresh sandwich roll will do here.) Drip a little jarred beef gravy on top of that. Not much is needed. Now toss some grated cheese on top. I like a parmesan and cheddar mix. Top the sandwich and put it in the microwave for another minute-- just enough melt the cheese a bit, and to warm the bun and gravy.

Awesome hot sandwich!

3Not haggis at all...Feb 17, 2009
By I. J. Sharp
This is a well-made canned product that tastes good, but is not haggis at all. Haggis is made from lamb "parts". Lamb and beef have distinctively different flavors.

A decent substitute at best, it does not come close to true haggis (which is available in the states). Do yourself a favor and seek out true haggis if you care to have the real experience.

5Scottish HaggisMay 12, 2007

This was my first time eating Haggis. I never had it while I was over seas. My wife who is a very picky eater tried it. All she could say was! We need to buy more of this. It was very tasty and very filling.

Great product.

Thanks

5As good as some of the best in ScotlandJun 07, 2010

Despite the "it's not real haggis" reviews, Caledonian Kitchens took something like 5th place with it _in Scotland_ in a country-wide competition.

It's also available in "presentation form" (in the more traditional casing) or many people who want the more traditional appearance use readily available casings to stuff their own.

But it's so reasomably priced (versus the available compeition in the US anyway) that I rountinely add it to the family's menu versus waiting for the once-a-year events which is where Americans most often enjoy haggis.

Having had "real haggis" all over Scotland, this ranks in the top 4 that I've ever had and is better than any other product (canned or frozen) that I've had in the US.
